Draft version of the constitution of Nepal is on floor for discussion by general public to solicit suggestions and feedback for further improvements. FIAN Nepal, in collaboration with NHRC, RtFN and HURJA, has tried to utilize this opportunity by providing suggestions in order to eliminate gaps for guaranteeing protection, promotion and fulfillment of ESCR, with particular emphasis on Right to Food, and revise/enrich the text accordingly. In this regard, several consultation workshops were organized for sharing the draft constitution and apprise of feedback before the final submission document was prepared. The ideas and feedbacks provided by civil society members and human rights defenders through these workshops were synthesized and compiled under three column suggestions to revise/improve 11 Articles along with introducing additional two new fundamental rights in the new constitution under Fundamental Rights and Duty Section (Part 3). We have demanded for guaranteeing Right to Food and Food Sovereignty in the new constitution, in addition to assuring several other fundamental rights that are included in the International Covenant on Economic, Social Cultural Rights to which Nepal is a state party.
