Provincial Level Workshop on Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Act


Interaction workshop focusing on Implementation and Promotion of Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Act, 2075 was conducted at Hetauda, Makawanpur, the Capital of Province 3 to the policy makers of Province 3. The workshop was jointly organized with Parliamentarians Committees i.e. Education, Health and Agriculture Committee and Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Protection Committee of the Parliament of Province 3 government.  The programme highlighted the major features of Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Act,  2075 enacted by Federal Government in 2018 and also discussed its opportunities and challenges for further implementation.

Altogether 35 members of parliament taken part in the programme. The programme was Chaired by Hon. Rama Aale Mager, President of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Protection Committee whereas Hon. Sanu Kumar Shrestha, Speaker of the House Province no. 3 was the Chief Guest. A welcome remarks to the participants was delivered by Hon. Ghana Shyam Dahal, President of Education, Health and Agriculture Committee and was facilitated by Ms. Yogita Rai, Vice-Chairperson of FIAN Nepal. Mr. Tilak Adhikari presented a paper on the features of Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Act, 2075 along with conceptual clarity on food security, right to food and food sovereignty.

Participants of the programme appreciated the program and raised issues related to effective implementation of Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Act, 2075. The participants internalized the need of localization of the Act and proper implementation establishing province level and local food council as per the provisions of the Act.
