High Level Policy Discussion on Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Issues on the Occasion of Approval of Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Regulation 2080 by Nepal Government

A high-level policy interaction and dialogue on ‘‘Provisions of Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Act, 2015 and Regulation 2080, Implementation Opportunities and Challenges: Role of Concerned Stakeholders” has been organized jointly by FIAN Nepal and Right to Food Network (RtFN) on 30 May 2024 at Kathmandu. Representatives leaders /members of several Civil Society Organization (CSOs), Federal and Local level government entities, academia and has been took part in the discussion programme.

The programme has been chaired by Mr. Gokarna Rupakheti, Chairperson-FIAN Nepal and Honorable Jwala Kumari Saha, Minister – Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) was chief guest of the programme. Altogether 4 federal level parliament members Hon. Rupa Kumari BK, Hon. Amrit Lal Rajbangsi, Hon. Mina Kumari Tamang, Hon. Man Bir Rai was special guest of the programme. Likewise, Mayor of the Dhunibesi Municipality, Dhading Mr. Balkrishna Aacharya was guest of the programme along with undersecretary of parliamentarian committee and some officers from the secretariat of Hon. Jwala K. Saha – minister – MoALD.

To assess the provision of Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Act 2015 and its Regulation 2024 whether there are connection contingency or not, make to government authorities and law/policies maker accountable towards right to food affected communities committing to implementation of right to food and food sovereignty act effectively and timely manner and build-up the strong solidarity among concerned CSOs to rights to voices towards people’s right to food and food sovereignty was major objectives of the policy dialogue
