Ms. Laxmi Gurung (she/her)

Short biography

Ms. Laxmi Gurung is a social activist advocating for social and development justice, with a focus on Indigenous peoples, Dalit communities, and smallholder farmers in Nepal. Her work centres on advancing the right to food, natural resource management, digital inclusion, and reproductive health rights.

She has contributed to grassroots movements and policy advocacy, particularly supporting marginalised communities to strengthen their access to resources and rights. She is a founding member of several Indigenous women-led grassroots organisations, including the Nepal Gurung (Tamu) Women Association.

Laxmi holds a master’s degree in Rural Development from Tribhuvan University and is currently pursuing an LLB at Nepal Law Campus. She is a Global Leadership School Fellow (2015) with the International Indigenous Women’s Forum (FIMI-IIWF) and Columbia University, and a Minority Rights Fellow (2013), jointly organised by Central European University and Middlesex University, London.
