HIV/AIDS daunting the life of women and children

Share:

Out of 1626 HIV/AIDS infected persons in Kailali district, 311 HIV/AIDS infected persons are living in Olani village of Godawori Municipality. They are under ART (Antiretroviral Therapy) treatment to lead a healthy life. Among the 311 HIV infected, 82 are women and 7 are children. Women usually contract the infection from their husbands engaged in migrant labor-work in India. Nutritious food is a basic requirement while taking ART. Due to poverty and lack of regular income, they are compelled to take ART without nutritious food. Thus, their health condition especially of women and children is deteriorating. Nutritious food, free health treatment/facilities, and social security are primary requirements for them to lead a healthy live but these are not covered under the government health insurance and social security schemes. Furthermore, HIV infected people have no concession on local travel to go to the health center for the required regular health check-up.
